The SMC Sports Band is one of the strongest and spirited sports bands in the West Coast Conference and is a student run organization in conjunction with the Associated Students of Saint Mary's College (ASSMC) and the Department of Athletics and Recreational Sports. The band performs at all home men's and women's basketball games while school is in session and other campus events such as rallies and fundraisers.

The Band is a loose group of musicians of all levels. Members of the Saint Mary's Jazz Band and other chamber music groups call themselves members of Sports Band. Players who have not picked up an instrument since high school are also welcome to join. The first rule for Sports Band is to have fun.

Reestablished in 2000, the SMC Sports Band played at football games as well as basketball games before football was discontinued at Saint Mary's in 2003. The band also travels to selected away events such as the WCC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament. In 2004-2005, the band traveled to Santa Clara for the WCC Basketball Tournament and to Oklahoma City, OK for the first round of the men's NCAA Basketball Tournament.
